Description: Plate 49 shows a few details of the mutilated state. These drawings have been constructed in order to show the purity of the mouldings. 

 Provenance:

A series of examples selected from the purest works executed between the years 1500 and 1560. Measured and drawn together with descriptive text by Andrew Prentice who was an architect and associate of the Royal Institute of British Architects and a Soane Medalist 

Most respectfully dedicated to Her Majesty, Dona Maria Cristina, Queen Regent of Spain by the author

This magnificent piece of Renaissance Carving, the work of an Italian master or great Spanish sculptor probably Berruguette, who studied under Michaelangelo

The wanton destruction of the fine old monastery of Pobletis to be deplored as it was done as recently as 1835 by a peasant mob shortly after the decree of the Spanish Minister, Mendizabelal ordering the suppression of all monastic buildings in Spain.
