Description: original was a  copperplate engraving with later hand colouring

Australian Banksia Marcesent reproduction print by Heritage Editions

Original was a  hand-colored copperplate engraving by Francis Sansom after a drawing by Sydenham Edwards (1768–1819) for Curtis's Botanical Magazine: or Flower Garden Displayed was used to create this print, which was then enlarged and printed. Welsh artist Sydenham Teast Edwards (1768–1819) produced expert botanical illustrations, which William Curtis discovered and hired in London.

Curtis' Botanical Magazine, founded in 1787 by William Curtis to depict plants from all over the world as the specimens were acquired and grown in Britain, almost exclusively employed Sydenham Edwards from 1788 to 1815. This custom has endured for more than 230 years. The Royal Horticultural Society publishes the magazine, which is currently referred to as Kew Magazine (after the London-based Kew Gardens).
