About the Artist

John Gould (1804–1881) was one of the most celebrated ornithological illustrators of the 19th century, often called the "Bird Man" of Victorian England. His landmark work The Birds of Australia (1840–1848) introduced the world to Australia's extraordinary avian life, while his broader body of work spanning Europe, Asia and the Americas set the gold standard for natural history illustration.
