Bill sykes was a fictional character and main antagonist in the 1938 novel Oliver Twist. Sikes is a malicious criminal in Fagin's gang and a vicious robber and murderer

Oliver Twist or The Parish Boy's Progress is Charles Dickens's second novel. The story centres on the orphan Oliver Twist born in a workhouse and sold into an apprenticeship with an undertaker.

This print comes from a series of Character sketches from Charles Dickens, Portrayed by Kyd in a series of watercolour sketches.

Biography

Joseph Clayton Clarke (1856-7 - 1937)

Clarke worked under the pseudonym "Kyd." he was a British artist best known for his illustrations of characters of the Charles Dickens Novels.

He was born in Peel on the Isle of Man. in 1889, he married Agnes Roberts and they had 9 children. He was also a designer of cigarette cards and postcards
