PLATE XVI. SALAMANCA. The Casa de las Muertes
As its name implies, this building was at one time the scene of some tragedy, and it is now uninhabited.
It was built about the year 1520 by Don Alonso de Fonseca, whose bust with those of his nephews is sculptured on the facade.
The sills of the top storey windows have evidently been cut down to the floor level of the rooms at a later period.
